Sam Masyr- Lead Coordinator

PA-S1 Yale School of Medicine

Samantha (Sam) Masyr grew up in southern California where she has spent the last decade enjoying the outdoors through rock climbing, hiking, camping, and backpacking. She got her B.S. in Biology and minor in Chemistry from Westmont College in 2018. While in college, she worked for the Montecito Fire Department and was recognized with an official commendation for her role in historical responses to both the Thomas Fire and the Montecito Mudslide. Since graduating, she has worked as a 911 EMT, running various calls ranging from traumas, to medical emergencies, to trail and ocean rescues. A near death experience of her own led her to start an international hiking community called People Who Hike, which focuses on safe trail practices and the community that can be found outdoors. Sam is now a student in Yale School of Medicine's PA Online Program and is involved with Yale's Wilderness Medicine Student Interest Group. She hopes to use her experience in emergency and disaster response to both work at a higher level in future responses as a PA and help GOWME's growth in 2022-2023.
