Alex Lupi - Chair

MS3 Vanderbilt University

Hey y’all! My name is Alex but most people call me Lupi. I’m a third year medical student at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. I grew up in Stafford, VA spending most my weekends playing soccer and lived for yearly trips to Boulder, CO to visit my Grandma and go skiing. I did my undergraduate at the University of Virginia where I became a die-hard UVA basketball fan and gained medical experience as a volunteer EMT. I also competed on the ski and snowboard team, and specialized in riding through mud, rocks, and ice in the mountains of Virginia and North Carolina. I took a gap year in Aspen, CO to work in adaptive skiing and the art of ski bumming. At Vanderbilt I’m involved in premed mentorship, health policy advocacy, and will be applying into emergency medicine.

I have experienced wilderness medicine as a volunteer medic for First Descents, a nonprofit that provides magical weekend and weeklong outdoor experiences for young adults impacted by cancer and other serious health conditions. Additionally, during my time as an EMT I trained in rescue diving and was a first responder during the 2017 rallies in Charlottesville, VA. I have already learned an immense amount from the first year of this lecture series and I’m excited to continue learning about wilderness medicine with you all! I also envision this project as a resource for connections and mentorship so please reach out with any questions about applying to medical school or getting involved with wilderness medicine!
