Alex Cole - Medical School REgional Representative

MS4 University of Miami Miller School of Medicine

I am Alex Cole, an MS4 at University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and the GOWME Representative for UM. I have a B.S. in Biomedical Science from the University of South Florida and M.H.S. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Bloomberg School of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University. Currently I sit on the executive board of the Wilderness Medicine Student Interest Group. I am heavily involved in research on spinal cord injuries at Lynn Rehabilitation Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital. I regularly travel to the U.S. National Parks and seek out new, fun, and exciting outdoor recreational activities. I am a regular hiker, camper, and rock climber. I also regularly spend time fishing and diving. Of note, I have recently climbed Half Dome, sport-climbed in Red River Gorge, through-hiked Mammoth Lakes Park, and served as an emergency medic for week-long camping projects.

I am personally interested in mountain medicine, high-altitude medicine, marine medicine, foraging and toxicology, and outdoor recreational park accessibility for all persons. I want to fuel the movement of making wilderness medicine more acceptable for aspiring medical professionals, especially those with a passion for adventure and the outdoors, and for people who want to explore their potential to be happier and healthier by getting outdoors and exploring the world. I am passionate about wilderness medicine and I look forward to sharing with you my enthusiasm for outdoor adventures. I connect students interested in wilderness medicine throughout the nation with each other and with opportunities to explore the field.
